Recommended 2-5 player board games for the holidays!

Here are a few great board games that are suitable for five players and under:

Splendor

Best number of players: 3-4

Duration: 45 minutes

An introductory must-play, simple and easy to learn, with strong participation from each player, this game is super addictive. It feels like playing Texas Hold'em when holding the chips.

CATAN

Best number of players: 4

Duration: 1.5 hours

This game is a classic in the world of board games. It's a must-play for anyone calling themselves a board game player. The base game can accommodate up to 4 players. I was so hooked on it for a while that I bought all the expansion packs. It involves dice rolling to choose cards and trading resources with other players, a combination of strategy and luck.

AZUL

Best number of players: 3-4

Duration: 30 minutes

This award-winning board game has exquisite design, is simple and easy to grasp, and each game is short. It's one of the less mentally taxing games in the board game world, and you can find ways to trick your opponents, making it highly entertaining.

Ticket to Ride

Best number of players: 4-5

Duration: 1.5 hours

The base version involves building railways on the U.S. map, and it's so much fun that I even bought the world version map where you can also build ships. The joy of the game comes from card drawing and it's another game where you can outmaneuver your opponents for territory.

Wingspan

Best number of players: 4-5

Duration: 1.5 hours

The hottest board game of 2021, it's a highly strategic game that requires a lot of thinking, and if you play the English version, you can learn about the specific names of various birds, truly an immersive experience for understanding the process of bird-keeping.

These are handpicked from numerous board games and are widely recognized as the most enjoyable. I highly recommend Splendor and Azul for newcomers as their rulebooks are easy to understand. The rulebooks for the other three games are a bit longer, so it's best to have a friend who understands them to guide the gameplay. If anyone has found other enjoyable games, please feel free to recommend them!
